Australian skipper Steve Smith took decision on Monday to bow out as captain of "Indian premier league" franchise Rajasthan Royals following calls of life forbid for his involvement in the ball-tempering scandal.
After Smith's decision, Royals quickly submitted the captaincy to Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane. Steve Smith will play as a RR team player in the IPL matches beginning from April seventh(7th).
Having been suspended for its role in 2013 spot-fixing scandal, Royals certainly were eager to bring an end to this controversy where Cameron Bancroft was asked by Smith to engage in cheating to influence the result of the game.
A fine of 100% of his match fee was taken from Australian Vice Captain Steve Smith whereas Cameron Bancroft was charged 75% of his match fee.
Steve Smith played in Rajasthan Royals team for two years. The franchise has not been part of the IPL for 2 seasons because of spot-fixing scandal.
"Rajasthan Royals will do everything possible to protect the values and the integrity of the game," co-owner of team Manoj Badale stated.
